Description

This Amish Applesauce Cake is a moist, old-fashioned dessert packed with warm spices, nuts, and raisins. Made with simple ingredients, this cake is easy to prepare and perfect for holidays, gatherings, or a cozy treat at home. The applesauce keeps it incredibly tender, while cinnamon and nutmeg add a comforting aroma.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups sugar

1/2 cup shortening

1 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/2 cup water

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chopped nuts

1/2 cup raisins

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, shortening, applesauce, water, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  3. Stir in chopped nuts and raisins until evenly distributed.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  5. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cake cool completely in the pan before serving.

Notes

Spiced Up – Add a pinch of ground cloves or ginger.

Sweeter Touch – Stir in ½ cup chocolate chips.

Fruit Boost – Substitute raisins with dried cranberries or chopped dates.

Frosted Option – Top with a cream cheese frosting.

Healthier Twist – Swap some all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour.
