Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/3 cup chopped scallions (green onions)
3/4 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add cubed cold butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until coarse crumbs form.
- Stir in shredded cheddar and chopped scallions, distributing evenly.
- Create a well in the center of the mixture and pour in buttermilk. Stir gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Drop heaping spoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
