Description

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/3 cup chopped scallions (green onions)

3/4 cup buttermilk


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Add cubed cold butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until coarse crumbs form.
  4. Stir in shredded cheddar and chopped scallions, distributing evenly.
  5. Create a well in the center of the mixture and pour in buttermilk. Stir gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Drop heaping spoonfuls of dough onto the baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Notes

For gluten-free biscuits, substitute all-purpose flour with a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend.
