Ingredients

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder
Optional Add-ins:

1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks

1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    Preheat to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8×8-inch baking pan by greasing or lining it with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the Wet Ingredients:
    In a large bowl, combine melted butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
  3. Combine the Dry Ingredients:
    Sift together cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually fold into the wet mixture, avoiding overmixing.
  4. Add Optional Mix-ins:
    Stir in chocolate chips or nuts if desired.
  5. Bake:

Notes

For an extra fudgy texture, slightly underbake the brownies.

Dutch-process cocoa powder gives a milder flavor but can be used if preferred.
