- Preheat the Oven:
Preheat to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8×8-inch baking pan by greasing or lining it with parchment paper. - Mix the Wet Ingredients:
In a large bowl, combine melted butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract. - Combine the Dry Ingredients:
Sift together cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually fold into the wet mixture, avoiding overmixing. - Add Optional Mix-ins:
Stir in chocolate chips or nuts if desired. - Bake:
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick. - Cool and Serve:
Cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice into squares and enjoy.
Notes
For an extra fudgy texture, slightly underbake the brownies.
Dutch-process cocoa powder gives a milder flavor but can be used if preferred.
To ensure clean slices, cool brownies completely and wipe the knife between cuts.
