Ingredients
6 medium-sized apples (preferably Granny Smith)
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup water
½ cup light corn syrup
Food coloring (your favorite colors)
Sprinkles or toppings of your choice
Wooden sticks for the apples
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple.
- Make the Candy Mixture: In a medium pot, combine granulated sugar, water, and light corn syrup. Stir and bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Color the Mixture: Add a few drops of food coloring once the mixture starts boiling, stirring until well incorporated.
- Cook the Candy: Boil without stirring until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer, or test by dropping a bit into cold water to form hard threads.
- Coat the Apples: Remove from heat, let cool slightly, then dip each apple into the candy mixture, coating evenly. Allow excess candy to drip off.
- Add Toppings: While still sticky, add your choice of toppings or sprinkles.
- Cool: Place the coated apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them cool and harden.
Notes
Ensure apples are completely dry before dipping to help the candy coating stick.
Use a candy thermometer for accurate results and avoid stirring the mixture once boiling.
