Description

Silky banana custard layered in individual cups and topped with whipped cream and fresh banana slices. This easy, make-ahead dessert is perfect for family dinners or special occasions. A rich, creamy treat that’s both kid-friendly and crowd-pleasing.

Ingredients

3 large ripe bananas, mashed

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup granulated sugar

3 large egg yolks

3 tablespoons cornstarch

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Whipped cream, for topping

Sliced bananas, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Custard Base:
    • In a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
    • Gradually whisk in milk until smooth and heat over medium, stirring constantly, until steaming but not boiling.
  2. Temper the Eggs:
    • In a small bowl, whisk the egg yolks.
    • Slowly add 1/2 cup of the hot milk mixture, whisking continuously.
    • Gradually return the yolk mixture to the saucepan, whisking constantly.
  3. Cook the Custard:
    • Stir over medium-low heat until thickened to a pudding-like consistency (about 5-7 minutes).
    • Remove from heat and mix in mashed bananas, vanilla extract, and butter until smooth.
  4. Assemble the Cups:
    • Divide custard evenly among 6 dessert cups. Cover with plastic wrap to prevent a skin from forming.
    • Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  5. Serve:
    • Top with whipped cream and fresh banana slices before serving.

Notes

For a chocolate twist, add 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder to the custard.

Use almond or oat milk for a dairy-free version.

Add toppings like toasted nuts, shredded coconut, or caramelized bananas for extra flair.
