Description

Enjoy a comforting dessert with these Easy Apple Dumplings. Tender apple wedges wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough, baked in a buttery cinnamon-sugar sauce, and topped with a sweet lemon-lime soda glaze create a warm, indulgent treat. Perfect for a cozy night in, serve these dumplings warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for a delightful finish to any meal.

Ingredients

2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 8 wedges each

1 (8 oz) can refrigerated crescent roll dough

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

1 (12 oz) can lemon-lime soda (such as Sprite or 7-Up)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Prepare the Apples: Peel, core, and cut each apple into 8 wedges. You should have 16 apple wedges.
  3. Wrap the Apples: Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into 8 triangles. Place one apple wedge at the wide end of each triangle and roll it up, pinching the ends to seal. Arrange each dumpling in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Make the Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg (if using) until smooth. Pour evenly over the apple dumplings.
  5. Add the Soda: Pour the lemon-lime soda around the edges of the baking dish, avoiding the tops of the dumplings.
  6. Bake the Dumplings: Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and the sauce is bubbly.
  7. Serve: Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.

Notes

Apple Choice: Granny Smith apples are preferred for their tartness, but you can use other apple varieties for a sweeter taste.

Make-Ahead: Assemble and refrigerate the dumplings before baking. Add the sauce and soda just before baking.

Freezing: Freeze baked and cooled dumplings for up to 3 months. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes from frozen.
