Ingredients
4 cups canned or frozen green beans, drained (about 2 cans or 16 oz frozen)
1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional, for added flavor)
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 cup crispy fried onions (plus extra for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish or similar-sized casserole dish.
- In a large bowl, combine green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce (if using), salt, and pepper. Stir in 1 cup of crispy fried onions.
- Pour the green bean mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
- Bake the casserole for 25 minutes, or until bubbly around the edges.
- Sprinkle additional crispy fried onions on top and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the onions are golden brown.
- Let the casserole cool slightly before serving warm.
Notes
For a variation, use fresh green beans by blanching them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes before adding to the casserole mixture.
If you want to make this ahead of time, assemble the casserole and refrigerate without the onion topping. Add the onions just before baking.
The soy sauce is optional, but it adds a savory flavor to the casserole. Feel free to omit if you prefer a simpler taste.
