Description

Indulge in this classic French Toast Delight recipe, perfect for a decadent breakfast or brunch. Made with thick-cut brioche or challah, and flavored with cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla, this easy recipe results in golden, custardy French toast. Serve with maple syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh berries for an unforgettable morning treat.

Ingredients

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/4 cup heavy cream

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

8 slices of thick-cut bread (brioche or challah works best)

Butter or oil for frying

Maple syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh berries for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
  2. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a small amount of butter or oil to coat the surface.
  3. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side.
  4. Place the soaked bread slices onto the hot skillet and cook until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  5. Remove from the skillet and keep warm. Repeat with the remaining slices of bread, adding more butter or oil as needed.
  6. Serve the French toast hot, topped with maple syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh berries.

Notes

For best results, use day-old bread as it absorbs the egg mixture better without becoming too soggy.

To make this recipe dairy-free, substitute the milk and cream with your favorite plant-based alternatives, and use plant-based butter for frying.

Leftover French toast can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
