1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 large onion, finely chopped

2 ribs celery, finely chopped

2 tsp poultry seasoning

1 tsp dried sage (optional)

1/2 tsp black pepper

2 large eggs, beaten


Instructions

Make the Cornbread:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a 9-inch skillet or baking dish.
  2. Whisk cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. In another bowl, mix buttermilk, egg, and oil. Combine wet and dry ingredients.
  4. Pour batter into the skillet; bake 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Let cool and crumble.

Prepare the Dressing:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Sauté onion and celery in melted butter over medium heat for 5-7 minutes.
  3. Mix crumbled cornbread, white bread, sautéed vegetables, poultry seasoning, sage, and pepper in a large bowl.
  4. Stir in eggs and broth until moist but not soggy, adding more broth as needed.

Bake the Dressing:
