Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

4 slices of rye bread

4 slices of Swiss cheese

1 large onion, thinly sliced

4 tbsp unsalted butter

Salt and pepper, to taste


Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef Patties: Season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Divide into 4 equal portions and shape into patties.
  2. Cook the Patties: Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the patties for 5-7 minutes per side, until done.
  3. Caramelize the Onions: In another skillet, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Add onions and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  4. Assemble the Sandwiches: Butter one side of each slice of bread. On the unbuttered side, layer a slice of cheese, a beef patty, and caramelized onions. Top with another slice of cheese and a second slice of bread, buttered side up.
