Description

Delightfully soft Christmas cookies that are perfect for decorating with icing and sprinkles! These buttery holiday treats are easy to make and a hit at gatherings or family baking sessions. Learn how to create this festive dessert with simple, step-by-step instructions.

Ingredients

For the Cookies:

3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

½ teaspoon almond extract

4 tablespoons milk

For the Icing:

2 cups powdered sugar

4 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Food coloring (optional)

Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar
Cream softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
  4. Combine Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk. Chill dough for 30 minutes if sticky.
  5. Roll and Shape
Roll out dough on a floured surface to ¼-inch thickness. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters and place on baking sheets.
  6. Bake the Cookies
Bake for 6-8 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Let cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  7. Prepare the Icing
Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Divide and color as desired.
  8. Decorate
Once cookies are completely cool, decorate with icing and sprinkles. Let set before serving or storing.

Notes

For a festive twist, replace almond extract with peppermint extract.

Dough can be made a day ahead and stored in the fridge.

Avoid overbaking for softer cookies; remove when edges are just golden.
