Ingredients
For the Fritters:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup milk
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 medium apples, peeled and diced
1/4 cup melted butter
Oil for frying
For the Vanilla Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2–3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, mix milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Gradually stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Gently fold in the diced apples.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C). Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, cooking in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry each side for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove fritters with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- For the glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.
- Drizzle the glaze over warm fritters before serving.
Notes
Apple Choice: Use Honeycrisp or Granny Smith for the best balance of sweetness and tartness.
Spice it Up: Add a pinch of nutmeg or allspice for extra depth of flavor.
Baked Version: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
Glaze Options: Swap the vanilla glaze for a caramel or maple glaze for a tasty twist.
