Description

Quick and easy Ten-Minute Microwave Caramels are soft, buttery, and rich homemade treats made with simple ingredients. Perfect for gifting or snacking, these caramels come together in just 10 minutes!


Ingredients

½ cup butter

½ cup light corn syrup

½ cup light brown sugar

½ cup white sugar

½ cup sweetened condensed milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. Butter an 8-inch square pan or a 9×5-inch loaf pan for thicker caramels. Optionally, line the pan with foil and butter the foil for easy removal.
  2. In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt butter (about 1 minute in the microwave).
  3. Stir in the corn syrup, brown sugar, white sugar, and sweetened condensed milk until the sugar begins to dissolve.
  4. Microwave the mixture on high for 3 minutes and 5–15 seconds. Stir, scrape down the bowl’s sides, and return to the microwave.
  5. Microwave again for another 3 minutes and 5–15 seconds. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the caramel mixture into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  7. Allow the caramels to cool and set at room temperature for several hours. Once firm, cut into squares and wrap in waxed paper.

Notes

Shorter cooking times yield softer caramels, while longer times produce firmer ones.
