Ingredients
For the Banana Bread Brownies:
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
4 ripe bananas, mashed
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
For the Brown Butter Frosting:
1/2 cup butter
4 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 15×10-inch jelly roll pan by greasing and flouring it.
- In a large bowl, beat together sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs until creamy.
- Stir in mashed bananas and vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined. Fold in chopped walnuts.
- Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- While baking, prepare the frosting: brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, then whisk in powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
- Spread the frosting over warm brownies. Allow to cool before cutting.
Notes
Substitute walnuts with pecans, shredded coconut, or chocolate chips for variations.
Ensure the frosting is smooth by sifting the powdered sugar before mixing.
For a nut-free version, simply omit the walnuts.
