Description

Soft and chewy sugar cookies with a hint of vanilla, perfect for any occasion. These irresistibly delicious cookies balance sweetness and softness for a delightful treat that everyone will love.

Ingredients

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined, avoiding overmixing.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and coat with 1/4 cup granulated sugar.
  7. Place dough balls 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are set, and centers appear slightly underbaked.
  9. Cool cookies on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a zesty twist, add lemon or orange zest to the dough.

To ensure chewy cookies, avoid overbaking and cool as directed.

Store in an airtight container with a slice of bread to maintain softness.
