Description

Chewy, soft, and loaded with gooey chocolate chips, these Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies are the ultimate comfort treat. With the hearty texture of oats, a touch of cinnamon, and sweet chocolate chips, this easy-to-make recipe is perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed light brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the oats, flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and optional nuts using a spatula.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of dough (about 1 1/2 tablespoons) onto the baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are golden brown and centers appear slightly underdone.
  9. Let cookies cool on the sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Use old-fashioned oats for a chewier texture.

Optional add-ins: nuts, shredded coconut, or dried fruit like raisins.

Avoid overbaking for the perfect soft and chewy cookie.
