Description

These Best Swedish Meatballs are a classic comfort food, featuring tender meatballs coated in a rich, creamy gravy. Perfect for cozy dinners, these savory meatballs are ideal for serving over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice. Enjoy the irresistible flavors that make this dish a family favorite.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1/2 lb ground pork

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup milk

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 large egg

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/4 teaspoon ground allspice

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

2 tablespoons butter (for frying)

2 tablespoons butter (for gravy)

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups beef broth

1 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Combine breadcrumbs and milk in a large bowl; let sit until absorbed.
  2. Add ground beef, pork, onion, egg, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix well.
  3. Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
  4. Fry meatballs in butter over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, melt butter, add flour, and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  6. Gradually whisk in beef broth; simmer until thickened.
  7. Stir in heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce; season with salt and pepper.
  8. Return meatballs to skillet, simmer for a few minutes, and garnish with parsley.
  9. Serve hot over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice.

Notes

For a lighter option, you can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half.

Ground turkey or chicken can be used instead of pork for a leaner alternative.

The meatballs can be made ahead of time and frozen for up to 2-3 months.
