Description

A rich, buttery toffee candy topped with melted semi-sweet chocolate and chopped nuts. This simple yet indulgent treat is perfect for holidays, gifting, or snacking with coffee.

Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups semi‑sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (almonds, pecans, or walnuts)

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  3. Add the granulated sugar and salt, stirring continuously until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly, and cook until it reaches 285°F and turns deep amber in color (about 10 to 15 minutes).
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract quickly.
  6. Immediately pour the hot toffee onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly with a spatula.
  7. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee and let sit for a few minutes to soften.
  8. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the surface.
  9. Top with chopped nuts while the chocolate is still warm.
  10. Let cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate to speed up cooling.
  11. Once set, break into pieces and serve.

Notes

Use a candy thermometer to ensure proper toffee texture (285°F hard-crack stage).

Swap chocolate types or add spices like cinnamon or cayenne for variations.

Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top for a sweet-salty contrast.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 weeks, refrigerated for 3 weeks, or frozen for 3 months.
