Description
A spicy and cheesy twist on the classic cheesesteak, this Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak features shredded chicken tossed in buffalo sauce, sautéed onions and optional peppers, melted cheese, and served in a toasted hoagie roll. Perfect for a quick lunch or game day meal.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
3 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded
1/2 cup buffalo sauce (or to taste)
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and black pepper to taste
4 hoagie rolls or sub buns
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
1/4 cup ranch or blue cheese dressing (optional)
Chopped green onions or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add sliced onion (and bell pepper if using) and sauté for 5–7 minutes until soft and slightly caramelized.
- Stir in shredded chicken, buffalo sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for 3–4 minutes until heated through and well-coated.
- Preheat oven broiler (or toaster oven).
- Open hoagie rolls and lay them on a baking sheet. Fill each roll with the buffalo chicken mixture.
- Top each sandwich with shredded cheese.
- Broil for 2–4 minutes, watching carefully, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Optional: Drizzle with ranch or blue cheese dressing and garnish with chopped green onions or parsley before serving.
Notes
Use rotisserie chicken to save time.
Adjust heat level by increasing or decreasing the buffalo sauce.
Swap out cheeses based on preference—cheddar, pepper jack, or gouda work well.
Make it low-carb by serving in lettuce wraps or over salad.
Store leftover chicken mixture separately and assemble fresh sandwiches before serving.
