Description

These Candied Sweet Potatoes are a perfect blend of sweet and savory, featuring a rich glaze made with brown sugar, maple syrup, and warm spices. They’re ideal for any occasion, especially holidays. The tender sweet potatoes coated in a sticky syrup, combined with optional crunchy pecans, make this recipe a comforting side dish that your family will love.

Ingredients

4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes

1/4 cup unsalted butter

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup maple syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a large pot, boil the sweet potato cubes for 10-12 minutes until just tender. Drain and set aside.

  3. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir and cook for 3-5 minutes until smooth and slightly thickened.

  4. Add cooked sweet potatoes to the saucepan and toss to coat in the syrup mixture.

  5. Transfer the sweet potatoes to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and pour any remaining syrup over the top.

  6. Sprinkle with chopped pecans, if desired.

  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, stirring halfway through, until sweet potatoes are tender and syrup thickens into a glaze.

  8. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a different texture, you can swap pecans with other nuts like walnuts or almonds.

For a more indulgent treat, add mini marshmallows for the last 10 minutes of baking.

Honey can replace maple syrup for a different sweetness.
