Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Streusel Topping:

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup rolled oats

1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

For the Caramel Sauce:

1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

For Assembly:

1 cup whipped cream

Additional caramel sauce for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apple Filling:
    • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
    • Add diced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook until apples are tender and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. Make the Streusel Topping:
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • Mix flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl.
    • Add cold cubed butter and blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    • Spread the streusel mixture on the baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown. Allow to cool.
  3. Assemble the Dessert Cups:
    • Layer cooked apple mixture in small dessert cups or jars.
    • Drizzle with caramel sauce.
    • Sprinkle with streusel topping.
    • Top with whipped cream and drizzle with additional caramel sauce if desired.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

For optimal freshness, add whipped cream just before serving.

Keep the streusel topping separate if storing the dessert cups for more than a day to prevent sogginess.
