Description

Chocolate Peanut Butter Ooey Gooey Butter Bars are a rich, indulgent dessert with a chocolate cake crust, creamy peanut butter filling, and melty chocolate chips on top. They have a soft, gooey center with a slightly crisp crust.


Ingredients

1 box chocolate cake mix

1/2 cup butter, melted

1 egg

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup peanut butter

2 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup chocolate chips


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and egg until fully combined, then press the mixture into the bottom of the baking dish to form the crust.
  3. In another bowl, beat together the cream cheese, peanut butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  4. Pour the peanut butter mixture over the chocolate crust and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  5. Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the top.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Let the bars cool completely before cutting them into squares for serving.

Notes

For a richer chocolate flavor, use a fudge or devil’s food cake mix.

Mix peanut butter chips with chocolate chips for a double peanut butter experience.

For a marbled look, swirl extra peanut butter into the filling.

For crunch, add chopped roasted peanuts on top before baking.
