Description
Chocolate Peanut Butter Ooey Gooey Butter Bars are a rich, indulgent dessert with a chocolate cake crust, creamy peanut butter filling, and melty chocolate chips on top. They have a soft, gooey center with a slightly crisp crust.
Ingredients
1 box chocolate cake mix
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 egg
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup peanut butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and egg until fully combined, then press the mixture into the bottom of the baking dish to form the crust.
- In another bowl, beat together the cream cheese, peanut butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Pour the peanut butter mixture over the chocolate crust and spread it evenly with a spatula.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs.
- Let the bars cool completely before cutting them into squares for serving.
Notes
For a richer chocolate flavor, use a fudge or devil’s food cake mix.
Mix peanut butter chips with chocolate chips for a double peanut butter experience.
For a marbled look, swirl extra peanut butter into the filling.
For crunch, add chopped roasted peanuts on top before baking.
