Soft and chewy Chocolate Sugar Cookies with a deep chocolate flavor are a must-try treat for chocolate lovers! Perfect for decorating or enjoying as-is, they’re a quick and easy dessert option ideal for holidays, parties, or any occasion.

Ingredients

1½ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

½ teaspoon baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Toppings: Sprinkles, powdered sugar, chocolate glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
  4. Beat in egg and vanilla until combined.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients to form a soft dough.
  6. Roll dough into 1½-inch balls, flatten slightly, and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets.
  7. Add toppings like sprinkles if desired.
  8. Bake 10-12 minutes, until edges are set but centers remain soft. Avoid overbaking.
  9. Cool on sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with chocolate glaze.

Notes

For variations, try adding chocolate chips, peppermint extract, or chopped nuts.

Use Dutch-processed cocoa for a richer flavor.
