Description

Indulge in this Chocolate Turtle Cake—a rich, gooey dessert with layers of chocolate, caramel, and crunchy pecans, topped with a drizzle of chocolate and caramel sauce. Perfect for special occasions or whenever you crave a decadent treat, this cake is as easy to make as it is delicious.

Ingredients

For the Cake:

1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box)

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 cup chopped pecans

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

For Topping:

1/2 cup caramel sauce

1/4 cup chocolate sauce

Additional pecans for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake Mix: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan. Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package instructions. Pour half of the batter into the pan.
  2. Bake the First Layer: Bake the first layer for 15 minutes, then remove from oven.
  3. Make the Caramel Layer: In a saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar, and heavy cream over medium heat, stirring constantly. Bring to a gentle boil, cook for 2 minutes, then remove from heat and stir in chopped pecans.
  4. Assemble the Layers: Pour the caramel-pecan mixture over the baked cake layer. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top, then pour the remaining cake batter over everything, spreading it evenly.
  5. Bake Again: Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Add Toppings: Let the cake cool slightly. Drizzle caramel and chocolate sauce on top and sprinkle with extra pecans if desired.

Notes

Storage: Cover the cake and store at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days. To freeze, wrap individual slices in plastic wrap and store in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.

Reheating: Microwave individual slices for about 15-20 seconds for a warm, gooey texture.

Nut Substitutions: Walnuts, almonds, or hazelnuts can be used instead of pecans.
