Description

These Christmas Ooey Gooey Butter Cookies are a festive holiday treat with a soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture and a burst of holiday cheer. Made with cream cheese and yellow cake mix, these cookies are quick to prepare and perfect for Christmas baking. With their gooey centers and powdered sugar coating, they’re the ideal addition to your holiday cookie platter. Don’t forget the red and green sprinkles to make them extra festive!

Ingredients

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 box (15.25 ounces) yellow cake mix

1 cup powdered sugar

Red and green sprinkles (for decorating)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and cream cheese until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
  3. Gradually add the yellow cake mix and mix until a thick dough forms.
  4. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until firm enough to handle.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Roll tablespoon-sized portions of the dough into balls, then roll each ball in powdered sugar to coat evenly.
  7. Place the coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Press a few red and green sprinkles onto each ball.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers remain soft. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chill the dough for at least 1 hour before baking to ensure the cookies maintain their shape.

You can customize the sprinkles to match the occasion, using other colors or even sugar crystals for extra sparkle.

Don’t overbake the cookies; they should be soft in the center for that signature gooey texture.
