Easy to make and customizable, these cookies are ideal for cookie exchanges and holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

For the Cookies:

2 1/2 cups (310g) all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup (170g) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

1/2 cup (120ml) eggnog

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Frosting:

2 cups (250g) powdered sugar

3 tablespoons eggnog

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional: Holiday sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar
Using a mixer, cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Add Wet Ingredients
Beat in the eggnog, egg, and vanilla extract until combined.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Scoop and Bake
Drop tablespoons of dough onto the baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  7. Prepare Frosting
Whisk powdered sugar, eggnog, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust eggnog for desired consistency.
  8. Frost and Decorate
Spread or drizzle frosting on cooled cookies. Add sprinkles or a dusting of cinnamon for decoration.

Notes

For a stronger eggnog flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the frosting.

Refrigerate dough for up to 2 days if preparing ahead of time.

Store cookies in an airtight container with a slice of bread to maintain softness.
