Ingredients
For the Bread:
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup milk
For the Apple Mixture:
2 large apples, peeled and chopped
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the Glaze:
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2–3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- In a small bowl, mix light brown sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Set aside.
- In another bowl, combine chopped apples, 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together granulated sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder. Gradually add to the butter mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle with half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture and half of the apple mixture. Lightly press apples into the batter.
- Pour remaining batter over apples, spread evenly, and top with remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture and apple mixture. Lightly swirl with a knife.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
- Whisk powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle glaze over the cooled bread.
Notes
Use Honeycrisp or Granny Smith apples for the best texture and flavor.
Ensure the batter is not overmixed to avoid dense bread.
For a softer texture, consider using a slightly lower baking temperature and longer baking time.
