Description

Creamy baked mac and cheese is the ultimate comfort food, featuring a velvety cheese sauce baked to perfection with a crispy golden top. This indulgent recipe is quick, customizable, and perfect for weeknight dinners or gatherings. Keywords: creamy baked mac and cheese, homemade mac and cheese, comfort food.

Ingredients

8 oz elbow macaroni

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

3 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon mustard powder

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon ground paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)

1 tablespoon melted butter (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
  2. Cook elbow macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk and heavy cream. Cook until thickened and simmering (about 5 minutes).
  5. Stir in cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan until melted and smooth.
  6. Add mustard powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat.
  7. Mix cooked macaroni into cheese sauce, coating evenly.
  8. Transfer macaroni mixture to the baking dish.
  9. (Optional) Combine breadcrumbs and melted butter; sprinkle over the top.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly. Cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

To prevent grainy cheese sauce, stir constantly and use low heat when adding cheese.

Use freshly shredded cheese for a smoother sauce.

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days. Add milk when reheating for extra creaminess.
