Description

Crispy mashed potato fries are a delicious twist on traditional fries—golden and crunchy on the outside, soft and fluffy inside. Made from leftover mashed potatoes, they’re easy, versatile, and can be fried, baked, or air-fried for a healthier option.

Ingredients

2 cups cold mashed potatoes (unsweetened, plain or lightly seasoned)

1/3 cup flour (all-purpose or gluten-free)

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon nutritional yeast (optional for cheesy flavor)

Oil for frying or spray for baking/air frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the mashed potatoes, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and nutritional yeast (if using) until a soft dough forms.
  2. Roll out the dough on parchment paper to about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Slice the dough into fry-shaped strips using a knife or pizza cutter.
  4. For frying: Heat oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat. Fry the strips in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  5. For baking: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place fries on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spray with oil, and bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway.
  6. For air frying: Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Arrange fries in a single layer, spray with oil, and cook for 10–15 minutes, shaking halfway.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dip like ketchup or vegan mayo.

Notes

Add herbs like chives or parsley for extra flavor.

Use more nutritional yeast or vegan cheese for a cheesy version.

Add smoked paprika or chili flakes for a spicy twist.

Skip oil spray for an oil-free version—just watch closely while cooking.

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat in oven or air fryer for best texture.
