Ingredients
For the Pie Crust:
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
1/4 cup ice water
For the Apple Filling:
6 cups peeled and sliced Granny Smith apples (about 6 medium apples)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Streusel Topping:
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Make the Pie Crust:
- In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in cold butter cubes until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until dough comes together. Form into a ball, flatten into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Prepare the Apple Filling:
- In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until evenly coated. Set aside.
- Assemble and Bake:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out chilled pie dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Place dough into dish and trim excess. Crimp edges as desired.
- Pour prepared apple filling into pie crust, spreading evenly.
- Make the Streusel Topping:
- In a medium bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Stir in melted butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle streusel topping evenly over apples in pie crust.
- Bake:
- Place pie on a baking sheet to catch drips. Bake in preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, until streusel topping is golden brown and filling is bubbly.
- Cool and Serve:
- Allow pie to cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours to set filling.
- Slice and serve Dutch Apple Pie on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delightful treat.
Notes
For a more tart flavor, use a combination of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples.
Ensure pie crust edges are covered or shielded with foil halfway through baking to prevent over-browning.
