Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 large egg
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and creamy (2-3 minutes).
- Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Fold in chocolate chips, if using.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are set but centers remain soft.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
