Ingredients
3 cups cooked chicken, shredded
1 (10.5 oz) can cream of chicken soup
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon dried sage (optional)
2 cups cornbread stuffing mix (or crumbled cornbread)
1/2 cup melted butter
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup chopped onion
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, sauté chopped onion and celery in 1 tablespoon of butter for about 5 minutes until softened.
- In a large bowl, combine shredded chicken, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, chicken broth, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and sage.
- Stir in the sautéed vegetables.
- In a separate bowl, mix the stuffing mix with melted butter until well coated.
- Spread half of the stuffing in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Layer the chicken mixture evenly over the stuffing base.
- Top with the remaining stuffing mixture.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for another 10–15 minutes, until the top is golden and crispy.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes, garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve.
