Description

These Easy Creamy Mashed Potatoes are soft, fluffy, and irresistibly creamy—a perfect side dish for any meal. Made with simple ingredients like butter, milk, and optional sour cream, they’re quick to prepare and rich in flavor. Whether it’s a holiday dinner or a casual weeknight meal, these mashed potatoes deliver comforting indulgence every time.

Ingredients

2 pounds russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed

1/2 cup milk (or heavy cream for extra richness)

1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste

1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste

1/4 cup sour cream (optional, for extra creaminess)

Fresh chives or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the peeled and cut potatoes in a large pot, covering them with water. Add a pinch of salt.
  2. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium heat and cook for 15-20 minutes, until tender.
  3. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
  4. Add butter, milk (or heavy cream), salt, and black pepper to the pot. Mash using a potato masher or hand mixer until smooth and creamy.
  5. Stir in sour cream if desired, adjusting the consistency with additional milk or cream if needed.
  6. Taste and season with additional salt and pepper as necessary.
  7. Garnish with fresh chives or parsley and serve warm.

Notes

For fluffier potatoes, avoid over-mashing. Use a potato masher for a rustic texture or a hand mixer for a smoother consistency.

Variations include adding roasted garlic, grated cheese, or fresh herbs for enhanced flavor.

Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated with a splash of milk or cream.
