Ingredients
1 lb ground turkey
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 red bell pepper, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup tomato sauce
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon mustard
½ teaspoon chili powder
Salt and pepper to taste
4 hamburger buns
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and red bell pepper, cooking for about 5 minutes until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and ground turkey to the skillet. Cook the turkey, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and flavors meld.
- Toast the hamburger buns lightly in the oven or on a skillet, if desired.
- Spoon the turkey mixture onto the bottom half of each bun, topping with fresh parsley. Place the top bun on and serve immediately.
