Description

Frikadellen are juicy, pan-fried German-style meat patties made with ground beef, onions, breadcrumbs, and spices. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, they’re a traditional and comforting dish that’s quick and easy to prepare.


Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1 egg

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup milk

1 tbsp chopped parsley

1 tsp mustard (preferably German-style)

1/2 tsp paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tbsp oil or butter for frying


Instructions

  1. Soak the breadcrumbs in milk for about 5 minutes until they soften.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, soaked breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, mustard, paprika, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  3. Mix gently to avoid overworking the meat mixture.
  4. Shape the mixture into 6 to 8 oval-shaped patties.
  5. Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  6. Fry the patties for 5 to 6 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
  7. Let the patties rest on a paper towel-lined plate for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Use a beef and pork mix for extra richness.

Add a pinch of nutmeg for a traditional flavor twist.

Dijon mustard can be substituted if German-style mustard isn’t available.

For a low-carb version, substitute breadcrumbs with almond flour.

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
