Description
Frikadellen are juicy, pan-fried German-style meat patties made with ground beef, onions, breadcrumbs, and spices. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, they’re a traditional and comforting dish that’s quick and easy to prepare.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 egg
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 tbsp chopped parsley
1 tsp mustard (preferably German-style)
1/2 tsp paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tbsp oil or butter for frying
Instructions
- Soak the breadcrumbs in milk for about 5 minutes until they soften.
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, soaked breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, mustard, paprika, parsley, salt, and pepper.
- Mix gently to avoid overworking the meat mixture.
- Shape the mixture into 6 to 8 oval-shaped patties.
- Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Fry the patties for 5 to 6 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
- Let the patties rest on a paper towel-lined plate for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Use a beef and pork mix for extra richness.
Add a pinch of nutmeg for a traditional flavor twist.
Dijon mustard can be substituted if German-style mustard isn’t available.
For a low-carb version, substitute breadcrumbs with almond flour.
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
