Ingredients
For the Kunafa Nests:
200g kunafa dough (kataifi)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
For the Gulab Jamun:
1 cup milk powder
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons ghee or unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup milk
Oil, for frying
For the Sugar Syrup:
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups water
1 teaspoon rose water
1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Prepare the Sugar Syrup: In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Boil and simmer for 8-10 minutes. Add rose water, cardamom, and lemon juice. Set aside.
- Make the Gulab Jamun: Mix milk powder, flour, and baking soda. Add melted ghee and milk to form a soft dough. Roll into small balls. Fry until golden brown and soak in syrup for 30 minutes.
- Prepare the Kunafa Nests: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Mix kunafa dough with melted butter and powdered sugar. Shape into nests in a muffin tin and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden.
- Assemble the Dessert: Place gulab jamun in each kunafa nest. Garnish with pistachios or rose petals. Serve immediately.
Notes
For best results, assemble the dessert just before serving to maintain the crispiness of the nests.
Store leftover gulab jamun and nests separately to keep textures intact.
