Description
This homemade dog food with ground turkey and vegetables is a balanced, nutritious meal that includes lean protein, whole grains, and fiber-rich vegetables. It’s simple to make, vet-approved, and suitable for dogs with sensitivities.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups brown rice
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 pounds ground turkey
3 cups baby spinach, chopped
2 carrots, shredded
1 zucchini, shredded
1/2 cup peas (frozen or fresh)
Instructions
- Cook the brown rice according to package instructions and set aside.
- In a large stockpot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add ground turkey and cook until browned, about 3 to 5 minutes, breaking it up as it cooks.
- Stir in spinach, carrots, zucchini, and peas. Cook for another 5 minutes until vegetables are tender and spinach is wilted.
- Add cooked rice to the pot and mix well until heated through and combined.
- Let the food cool completely before serving it to your dog.
Notes
You can substitute ground turkey with lean ground chicken or beef.
Sweet potatoes or green beans make great veggie add-ins.
For dogs with grain sensitivities, replace brown rice with quinoa or omit entirely.
Store in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
Always check with your vet before switching your dog’s diet.
