Ingredients
2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
1–2 fresh jalapeños, seeds removed for less heat
3 cups sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 package (1.75 oz) fruit pectin (like Sure-Jell)
1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients:
- Wash, hull, and chop strawberries.
- Remove seeds from jalapeños (for milder heat) and finely chop.
- Cook the Jam:
- Combine strawberries, jalapeños, and water in a large saucepan.
- Bring to a boil over medium heat, then simmer for 5-10 minutes until the strawberries break down.
- Add Sugar and Pectin:
- Stir in sugar and lemon juice.
- Gradually add pectin, stirring continuously.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 5-7 minutes until it thickens.
- Can the Jam:
- Pour the jam into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch of space.
- Seal jars and process in a hot water bath for 5-10 minutes or refrigerate and use within a few weeks.
- Cool and Enjoy:
- Allow jars to cool. Serve as desired.
Notes
Adjust spice levels by altering the number of jalapeños or including/excluding seeds.
Swap strawberries with other berries for flavor variations.
Properly sealed jars can be stored for up to 12 months.
