Ingredients
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
1/4 cup red, white, and blue sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using).
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Fold in the red, white, and blue sprinkles.
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers remain soft.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For best results, do not overbake the cookies. Remove them from the oven while they are still soft in the center.
If desired, substitute almond extract with additional vanilla extract for a more pronounced vanilla flavor.
Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze for longer storage.
