Description

Indulge in these Oven Fried Feta Rolls with Chili Honey – a perfect blend of crispy phyllo dough, savory feta cheese, aromatic dill, and a sweet-spicy dipping sauce. This easy-to-make appetizer combines mouthwatering textures and bold flavors, ideal for any gathering. Crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, with a kick of heat and sweetness from the chili honey sauce. Perfect for parties or casual dinners!

Ingredients

8 ounces feta cheese, crumbled

2 tablespoons fresh chopped dill

1 clove garlic, grated

18 sheets frozen phyllo dough, thawed

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, plus more for brushing

1 tablespoon salted butter

1 ½ teaspoons chili flakes

½ teaspoon cumin seed

⅓ cup honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare:

    • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Prepare Feta Filling:

    • In a bowl, mix together the crumbled feta cheese, fresh dill, and grated garlic. Set aside.

  3. Assemble Rolls:

    • Lay out a sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and fold it in half. Lightly brush the edges with olive oil. Place a spoonful of the feta mixture at one end and roll the dough tightly, sealing the sides. Repeat with the remaining ingredients and place rolls seam-side down on the baking sheet.

  4. Bake to Golden Perfection:

    • Brush the rolls with more olive oil and bake for about 20 minutes, or until golden and crispy.

  5. Prepare Chili Honey Sauce:

    • In a small saucepan, melt butter with olive oil over medium heat. Stir in the chili flakes and cumin seeds, and cook until aromatic. Remove from heat and stir in honey.

  6. Serve and Enjoy:

    • Once the rolls are baked, serve them with the chili honey sauce for dipping.

Notes

Store leftover rolls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes until crispy. The chili honey sauce can be stored for up to a week.

Variations include adding fresh herbs like parsley or oregano, swapping feta for goat cheese or mozzarella, or adding spinach/kale to the filling.
