Ingredients

For the Crust:

1 cup unsalted butter, melted

½ cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

¼ teaspoon salt

2 cups all-purpose flour

For the Apple Filling:

3 large apples (Granny Smith recommended), peeled and thinly sliced

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

For the Streusel Topping:

½ cup old-fashioned oats

½ cup light brown sugar, packed

½ cup all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

For the Salted Caramel Sauce:

Store-bought or homemade salted caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir in flour until combined. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes or until lightly golden.
  3. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. In a medium bowl, mix oats, brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Remove the crust from the oven, increase the temperature to 350°F (175°C), layer the apples over the crust, and sprinkle with streusel topping.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and apples are tender. Allow to cool completely, then drizzle with salted caramel sauce before cutting into squares and serving.
