Description

A savory chicken and mushroom filling wrapped in flaky puff pastry, creating a comforting and flavorful dish perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

2 sheets puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 chicken breasts, cooked and shredded

1 cup mushrooms, sliced

1/2 onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup chicken broth

1 teaspoon thyme, dried or fresh

Salt and pepper to taste

1 egg (for egg wash)

Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté for 2-3 minutes, or until softened and fragrant.
  3. Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the mushrooms release their moisture and become tender.
  4. Stir in the shredded chicken, heavy cream, chicken broth, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, until the mixture thickens slightly.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into squares or rectangles, depending on your preference.
  6. Spoon the chicken and mushroom mixture into the center of each pastry square, leaving a border around the edges.
  7. Fold the pastry over the filling to form a pocket or rectangle. Press the edges to seal, and use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.
  8. Beat the egg and brush it over the top of each pastry for a golden finish.
  9. Place the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and puffed.
  10. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, replace the chicken with additional mushrooms or a mix of mushrooms and spinach.

Add shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella) for extra richness.

Spices like nutmeg or cayenne pepper can be added for a unique twist.
