Ingredients
6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
For the Oatmeal Crumble:
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Spread the apple mixture evenly in a 10-inch skillet.
- In a separate bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your hands to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture forms coarse crumbs. If you’re using nuts, stir them into the crumble mixture.
- Evenly sprinkle the oatmeal crumble over the apples in the skillet.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crumble topping is golden brown and crispy.
- Allow the crisp to cool slightly before serving.

For a tart contrast, use Granny Smith apples.
