Description

This Skillet Apple Crisp with Oatmeal Crumble combines tender apples with a buttery, sweet oatmeal crumble topping, all baked to perfection in a skillet, making it a comforting and rustic dessert.

Ingredients

6 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/8 teaspoon salt

For the Oatmeal Crumble:

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/3 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes

1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Spread the apple mixture evenly in a 10-inch skillet.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your hands to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture forms coarse crumbs. If you’re using nuts, stir them into the crumble mixture.
  4. Evenly sprinkle the oatmeal crumble over the apples in the skillet.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crumble topping is golden brown and crispy.
  6. Allow the crisp to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a tart contrast, use Granny Smith apples.

Make sure to store any leftovers in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.

To make it dairy-free, substitute butter with coconut oil or a dairy-free butter alternative.

Use gluten-free flour and certified gluten-free oats to make it gluten-free.

Freeze the cooled crisp for up to 3 months, and bake from frozen at 350°F (175°C) for 45-50 minutes.
