Tender ground turkey patties slow-cooked in a rich mushroom and onion gravy, offering a healthier twist on classic Salisbury steak. This comforting dish is easy to prepare and perfect for a cozy weeknight meal.
Ingredients
1 1/2 lbs ground turkey
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1/4 cup milk
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, sliced
1 1/2 cups sliced mushrooms
1 1/2 cups beef or turkey broth
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons water
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, finely chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Shape the mixture into 6 oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Brown each patty for 2–3 minutes on each side.
- Layer sliced onions and mushrooms in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Place the browned patties on top of the onions and mushrooms.
- Pour the broth over the patties. Cover and cook on LOW for 5–6 hours or HIGH for 3 hours.
- Remove the patties. Stir cornstarch mixed with water into the gravy.
- Cook on HIGH for 10–15 minutes until the gravy thickens.
- Return the patties to the slow cooker and coat with gravy.
- Serve hot over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.
Notes
Add a splash of balsamic vinegar to deepen the flavor.
Use gluten-free breadcrumbs and sauce for a gluten-free version.
Can substitute ground chicken for a milder flavor.
Stir in sour cream or Greek yogurt for creaminess.
Add frozen peas or green beans in the last hour for extra veggies.
