Ingredients
For the Cookies:
3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 large egg
1/4 cup molasses
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
For the Maple Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1–2 tablespoons milk (adjust for consistency)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the Cookie Dough:
Cream together butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, molasses, and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until a soft dough forms. - Chill the Dough:
Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to make it easier to handle. - Bake the Cookies:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, and place on the prepared sheets, 2 inches apart. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. - Make the Maple Glaze:
Whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust with more milk or powdered sugar for the desired consistency. - Decorate the Cookies:
Drizzle or spread the maple glaze over the cooled cookies. Allow the glaze to set before serving.
Notes
Storage: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week, or freeze for up to 3 months.
Chill the Dough: Chilling the dough helps the cookies maintain their shape and ensures they bake evenly.
Customize the Glaze: Adjust the thickness of the glaze by adding more or less milk depending on your preference.
