Description

Enjoy homemade Soft Pretzel Bites that are perfectly chewy, golden brown, and sprinkled with coarse salt. These easy-to-make bites are ideal for snacking, serving at parties, or game-day gatherings. Serve them with your favorite cheese sauce or mustard for an irresistible treat that everyone will love.

Ingredients

1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)

1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast

1 tablespoon sugar

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

10 cups water

2/3 cup baking soda

1 egg yolk beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)

Coarse salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Add flour and salt, mix until dough comes together, then knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  2. Preheat Oven: Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  3. Boil Water and Baking Soda: Bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil in a large pot.
  4. Shape the Pretzel Bites: Punch down risen dough, divide into 6 pieces, roll each into a 12-15 inch rope, and cut into 1-inch bites.
  5. Boil the Pretzel Bites: Drop pretzel bites into boiling water, 10-15 at a time, for about 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on prepared baking sheets.
  6. Add Egg Wash and Salt: Brush each pretzel bite with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  7. Bake: Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Serve: Cool slightly before serving with dipping sauces.

Notes

For a different flavor, try adding garlic powder or fresh herbs to the dough before shaping.

Ensure the baking soda solution is fully boiling before adding pretzel bites to get the best texture.
