Description

Spinach and Feta Puff Pastry Twists are a delicious, savory treat made with fresh spinach, crumbled feta cheese, and a touch of cream cheese, wrapped in flaky puff pastry. Perfect for a snack, appetizer, or light meal.

Ingredients

1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup fresh spinach, chopped

1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled

1/4 cup cream cheese, softened

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 clove garlic, minced

1/4 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and sauté for 1 minute.
  3. Add the spinach to the skillet and cook until wilted, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  4. In a bowl, combine the cooked spinach, feta cheese, cream cheese, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  5. Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Spread the spinach and feta mixture evenly over one half of the pastry.
  6. Fold the other half of the puff pastry over the filling to create a rectangle. Press down the edges to seal.
  7. Cut the pastry into 1-inch strips and twist each strip into a spiral shape.
  8. Place the twisted pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Beat the egg and brush it over the twists for a golden finish.
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are golden and puffed up.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-10 minutes to restore crispiness.

Frozen twists can be stored for up to 2 months. Bake from frozen for an additional 5-10 minutes.

Frozen spinach can be used if fresh spinach isn’t available, just be sure to thaw and drain it well.

The recipe can be made ahead by preparing the twists and refrigerating them before baking.

Cheese alternatives like parmesan, ricotta, or mozzarella can be used instead of feta.

For a different texture, phyllo dough or pie crust can be used instead of puff pastry.
