Ingredients
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup whole milk
½ cup ground almonds (optional)
Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and ground almonds (if using).
- In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3-4 minutes).
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in almond and vanilla extracts.
- Gradually add dry ingredients in batches, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pan, smoothing the top.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, incorporate citrus zest or chocolate chips.
