Description

Crispy, tender cauliflower bites coated in a creamy, spicy Bang Bang sauce make this Vegan Bang Bang Cauliflower an irresistible appetizer or side dish. Whether fried, baked, or air-fried, this plant-based version delivers bold flavors with a perfect crunch.

Ingredients

For the Cauliflower:

1 head of cauliflower, cut into florets

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup cornstarch

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

3/4 cup non-dairy milk

1 tablespoon olive oil

Oil for frying

For the Bang Bang Sauce:

1/4 cup vegan mayo

2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce

1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon maple syrup (or agave nectar)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Gradually add the non-dairy milk, stirring until a smooth batter forms.
  4. Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, ensuring full coverage.
  5. Fry the battered cauliflower in batches for about 3-4 minutes per batch, until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together the vegan mayo, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and maple syrup to make the Bang Bang sauce.
  8. Toss the fried cauliflower in the sauce until evenly coated.
  9. Serve immediately, garnished with chopped green onions or cilantro if desired.

Notes

Baked Version: Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy.

Air Fryer Option: Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.

Extra Crunchy: Add panko breadcrumbs after dipping the florets in the batter.

Gluten-Free Alternative: Use gluten-free flour and ensure the cornstarch is gluten-free.

Milder Heat: Reduce or omit the sriracha for a less spicy version.
