Ingredients
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups whole milk
1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring constantly, to form a smooth roux.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, blending smoothly without lumps.
- Cook and stir for 3 to 5 minutes until the mixture thickens.
- Add the salt, black pepper, and minced garlic. Let it simmer for 1 more minute.
- Remove from heat and stir in the Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning until smooth and creamy.
- Let the sauce cool slightly before using on pizza, pasta, or as a dip.
Notes
Add crushed red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
Mix in mozzarella or provolone for extra cheesiness.
Reduce milk for a thicker, dip-style sauce.
Blend in sautéed mushrooms or spinach for more flavor and texture.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Reheat gently on stove or in microwave, stirring and adding a splash of milk if needed.
